A Model for Hard X-ray Emission from the Top of Flaring Loops

چکیده
The frequent occurrence of hard X-ray emission from the top of Ñaring loops was one of the discoveries by the Hard X-Ray Telescope on board the Japanese Yohkoh satellite. In this paper we take a Ñare current-sheet geometry and show how the combined e†ect of magnetic Ðeld convergence and pitchangle scattering of nonthermal electrons injected at the top of the loop results in the generation of a looptop source with properties akin to those observed by Yohkoh. We demonstrate that a looptop source can be produced in both impulsive and gradual phase loops. We further present a possible mechanism for the generation of high-temperature ““ ridges ÏÏ in the loop legs. Subject headings : Sun: corona È Sun: Ñares È Sun: X-rays, gamma rays

Evaluating Mean Magnetic Field in Flare Loops
We analyze multiple-wavelength observations of a two-ribbon flare exhibiting apparent expansion motion of the flare ribbons in the lower atmosphere and rising motion of X-ray emission at the top of newly-formed flare loops. We evaluate magnetic reconnection rate in terms of VrBr by measuring the ribbon-expansion velocity (Vr) and the chromospheric magnetic field (Br) swept by the ribbons. We al...

In this study, some characteristics of a Mather type Plasma Focus (PF) device such as a discharge current, pinch time, ion flux and hard x-ray intensity has been investigated simultaneously in argon and nitrogen gases separately for various operating gas pressures and charging voltages of capacitor bank. It was observed that pinch phenomena was energy and pressure dependent in current sheath as...
متن کاملLooptop Hard X-ray Emission in Solar Flares: Images and Statistics
The discovery of hard X-ray sources near the top of a flaring loop by the HXT instrument on board the YOHKOH satellite represents a significant progress towards the understanding of the basic processes driving solar flares. In this paper we extend the previous study of limb flares by Masuda (1994) by including all YOHKOH observations up through August 1998. We report that from October 1991 to A...

We present here simultaneous INTEGRAL/RXTE observations of Sco X-1, and in particular a study of the hard X-ray emission of the source and its correlation with the position in the Z-track of the X-ray color-color diagram. We find that the hard X-ray (above about 30 keV) emission of Sco X-1 is dominated by a power-law component with a photon index of ∼ 3. The flux in the powerlaw component sligh...
متن کاملOn the Spatial Distribution of Hard X-Rays from Solar Flare Loops
The aim of this paper is to investigate the spatial structure of the impulsive phase hard X-ray emission from solar flares. This work is motivated by the YOHKOH and the forthcoming HESSI observations. Summarizing past results, it is shown that the transport effects can account for the observations by inhomogeneous loops where there is a strong field convergence and/or density enhancement at the...
